Restoration of the Church BellsThe current ring of five bells was installed in 1958 by Whitechapel Bell Foundry, London. Previously, there were still five bells in the tower. However, these were reputed to have been in an unringable condition with the fourth bell damaged. The fourth bell was recast in 1958 as part of the restorations and retains its original inscription dated incorrectly as 1073 (1703). When Whitechapel installed the five bells, they were commissioned to do so using a frame built for six bells. Unfortunately, the sixth bell pit has remained empty ever since. The year 2008 will be the Golden Anniversary of the bells and we are installing the sixth and final bell to make the ring complete. Whites of Appleton have been approached to carry out this work. As well as installing the new bell, they will re-hang the existingfive bells and totally renovate all working parts in the belfry. On completion of this of this essential restoration work, the bells of Great Wilbraham will be good for generations to come. The total cost of the restoration is £14,040.75 Below you will find a list of parts needed alongside its cost. If you are interested in supporting this project in any way, please do get in contact with the Tower Captain, Phil Gorman or the Tower Secretary, Graham Pye.
